When you go to http://answers.microsoft.com , you can click on Office at the right-side then select the appropriate version to start checking and possibly posting on the topics listed.

As for the error that you encountered, which advises you to contact your ISP, I'll need the whole error message. Also, are you using dial-up connection? Or are you on DSL, cable, others?

After all of the corrections and input you gave me last week, the only message is "contact your ISP." Nothing  else appears.  I am using dial-up.  After clicking around some more on the Outlook Tools menu I clicked on Trust Center.  There are a number of com add-ins available which seem to be Outlook Connector-related.  Should I click add?  It also asks "Apply macro security settings to installed add-ins? yes/no."  Which answer should I click for this?  Is all this a previously missed second step?  I am asking before doing it because of the below circumstance.

A computer savvy neighbor tried to help me with the problem and made things worse.  It is now asking for a network user name and password, and not accepting my usual name and password for this.  Now the incoming server for Outlook does not work either (but it still works for Hotmail).  I never set up a separate network user name and password (unless user name in this instance means MSN/first part of email address).  I tried downloading and installing connector again and removing and adding back in my Outlook settings, but it did not correct these new problems.  I've also noticed that when I have redone the Outlook settings (which I have done many times), I always choose "dial-up" but it mostly switches to LAN when I look at it again.  The other possible mistake made while fooling around was to click on Outlook Connector accounts on the toolbar and enter my usual login information.  I later deleted this, but perhaps it stuck.  Any quick answers to this one?

Remove any account that you've added. Add your account to Outlook Connector accounts and enter your information. At that time, make sure that you have internet connection (ie. connection to your MSN dial-up if that's your internet access)

The problem is now solved, at least according to the Outlook set-up test.  It took a combo of 587 for the outgoing server plus auto instead of SSL for encription on the advanced tab.
