When I signed in the MSN tonight, my Favorites list was empty.  I tried refreshing my browser (MSN).  I tried closing MSN and signing back in.  I tried the CTRL + SHIFT + F9, but it didn't work.  I tried shutting down and restarting my computer.  Nothing has worked!  Help!

3. Sign into MSN > Click Help and Settings > click status and support > In the left pane click on System information > Please scroll down and check the Roaming version of favorites.
4. For Win Xp:
Click start and then click Run and type - C:\Document and Settings
a. Click ‘Tools’, ‘Folder options’, and then ‘View’
b. Put a dot on ‘Show hidden files and folders’
c. Uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’
d. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
e. Click ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’
f. Click start and in Run command windows type C:\Document and Settings\ <USER NAME> \Application Data\MSN6\
(Right click on MSN6 click copy and then go to desktop and paste it.)

For Win Vista and Win7:
Click start and in start search box type - C:\Users\
a. Click ‘Organize, Click on Folder and Search options’, and then ‘View’
b. Put a dot on ‘Show hidden files and folders’
c. Uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’
d. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
e. Click ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’
f. Click start and in start search type %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\MSN6
(Right click on MSN6 click copy and then go to desktop and paste it.)

5. The favorites.xml file is under MSN6 folder - User data- If you use multiple accounts, you will see multiple folders with numbers and alphabets so please open each one of the folders and check the size of favorites.xml files.

Let us know the size of favorites.xml for further assistance.

Thanks,

Paolo M.

I tried everything you said, but my favorites are still gone!  Is there any way to send me a list of my favorites?  I don't mind having to put them in manually.

What I don't get is why I lost them in the first place.  I didn't change any settings or move or delete any programs or files recently, so I don't know what could have brought this on!  If I did, I'd make sure not to do it again!

Hi,

The message that you got "File could not be found" by double clicking it may be an indication that the favorites file where it is kept may be corrupted or damaged. Have you tried clicking on organize to check if it even tries to load?

You can also try to open the Favorites.xml using Internet Explorer by:

1. Right click on the Favorites.xml file
2. Click on Open With.
3. Then click on Internet Explorer (Make sure that the option "always use the selected program ot open this file" is not checked) and click on OK.

Try to check to see if the websites that you tagged as your favorites will be listed there.

Also if you have another computer that has the msn software you may want to try to copy the Favorites.xml from the other computer to the computer that is having the issue.

If ever all of these does not work or you do not see the favorites that you have, you may need to recreate the favorites that you had.

Thanks

Paolo M.

Trying to open my favorites list in Internet Explorer didn't work.  I tried clicking on "organize favorites" in MSN and I got an empty MSN Favorites screen with a "loading" message, but nothing comes up beyond that.  I even tried to resave a few of my favorites that I remembered, but I got the same thing when I tried to organize them into separate folders the way I had them before.

At this point, I might just scrap MSN altogether and keep my favorite site links in a Word document, which I hate to do because I really liked the Favorites setup in MSN, whcih was the major reason that I opted to start paying for MSN Premium in the first place.

Thanks for trying to help!

Freda
