No mail coming in at MSN Mail.

After I sign into MSN Explorer, I go to MSN Mail and wait for it to check for mail, but nothing happens.   Nothing about "connecting to server", nothing.   I sent myself test emails to my MSN address (from another email account)  --  they come in at Outlook Mail, but not at MSN Mail.   Even keying F5 doesn't start the "checking for mail" process.   A private message with the phone number to your overseas call center won't help.   Answers, please?   Is this an issue on which you are working?

Hi,

Following are the reason why MSN is not allowing you to send and receive emails:

If your data base of your email is corrupt it will load slowly and sometime automatically MSN will shut down. If you have an Antivirus software, or a firewall which might be blocking the msn to send/receive emails.

If your MSN is corrupt it will fail to respond.

In order to fix this you need to rename the SDF files which are in Database folder.

To find the database folder location, please follow the instruction given below:

Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8.1/Windows 10

Note: Sign out from MSN then close the program before performing the steps below.

1.  Click ‘Start’

          2. In the Search box, type the following: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSN

          3. Press the ENTER key

          The MSN folder will open.

          4. In the MSN folder, do the following:

               a. Click ‘Organize’, ‘Folder and Search options’, then ‘View’

               b. Put a dot on ‘Show hidden files and folders’

               c. Uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’ and ‘Hide protected operating system files options’

               d. Click ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’

If Its msn 11.00/11.50 db30 and db40 folders will appear inside the MSN folder.

          5. Open db40(msn11.00/ 11.50)folder then look for files that end as msn-com.sdf and msn-com_JMF.sdf

          6. Right-click, choose ‘Rename’ and add .old after .sdf to both these files

          7. Close the db40 folder

Windows XP

Note: Sign out from MSN then close the program before performing the steps below.

         1. Click ‘Start’ then ‘Run’

         2. Type in the box: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN

         3. Click ‘OK’

         The MSN folder will open.

         4. In the MSN folder, do the following:

                   a. Click ‘Tools’, ‘Folder options’, then ‘View’

                   b. Put a dot on ‘Show hidden files and folders’

                   c. Uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’

                   d. Click ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’

If Its msn 10.50 db30 and db40 folders will appear inside the MSN folder.

Open the db40(msn10.50)folder then look for files that end as msn-com.sdf and msn-com_JMF.sdf
Right-click, choose ‘Rename’ and add .old after .sdf to both these files

. Close the db40 folder

After renaming the sdf files. Sign in to MSN and wait for the emails to get filter. If still you are unable to send/receive emails on msn client, then please check the private message for further assistance

Thank and regards

Jason

Thank you, Jason.  I went through and did as you instructed, EXCEPT for unchecking "Hide protected operating system files" ("Hide extensions for known file types" was already unchecked).  When I went to uncheck "Hide protected.....", a warning came up: "You have chosen to display protected system files in Windows Explorer. These files are required to start and run Windows. Deleting or editing them can make your computer inoperable." So, I chose "No" for that. Sorry -- not going to take that chance. Also.....your instructions say to add .old after .sdf to BOTH files in db40; I actually have four files -- two are named to include my non-MSN alternate sign-in address.  Since they also end in msn-com.sdf and msn-com_JMF.sdf, I added .old to those as well.  Anyway.....I signed into MSN Explorer, went to MSN Mail. The word "Connecting..." came up, but nothing happened. I went off to something else (was I supposed to stay on MSN Mail the whole time?); when I came back to MSN Mail, "Connecting..." had disappeared.  Is there something else I need to do or UNdo, OTHER than calling the phone number in the private message?  I appreciate any additional instructions that you have.

One other thing  --  although I have this thread marked to receive emails if a comment or reply is posted, I received no notice of your reply (which would come to my alternate non-MSN address, which is working just fine).  So, the notification thing isn't working again.  I just happened to check in here and found your message.

Just an addendum -- I just signed out of my MSN Explorer and into my husband's MSN Explorer using his MSN address (with his permission, of course), and find that his MSN Mail works just fine.  Same computer -- I just clicked "Sign Out And Switch Members" from my side of MSN Explorer, signed in with his MSN address and find no problem with his MSN Mail.  Mine gets stuck on "Connecting....." and does nothing else.  So, why is there a problem with mine only on the same computer??

Thank you for clarifying that it's not just my computer or my program.  I don't care to give remote access to anybody, so I will wait until your tech support gets this problem FIXED, which I certainly hope that you will.
