Problem with McAfee update?

I have McAfee Personal Firewall Plus For MSN with my dial-up membership.    My version is as follows:   Security Center Version 11.6.    Virus Scan Version 15.6.     Personal Firewall Version 12.6.    The update I've been trying to do tonight would take about 6 hours to complete at my rate of connection speed.   When I downloaded and installed my McAfee For MSN (when I got this computer), the whole thing took under 2 hours -- why would an update take so much longer????    There was a problem like this a few months ago and it turned out to be a problem at McAfee's end.    Is that the case again?

UPDATE (9/9):   For anyone else who may have had this problem, too, it appears that it's been corrected.   I just downloaded and installed last night's update (the one that was taking so long) in under 2 minutes.    I'll do tonight's later when it becomes available.    I had numerous "views" of this posting -- if you are having the same problem you see posted, add your post to it.   MSN won't know there's a problem if you don't tell them, and this way they'll know that it's not just one person's computer, but possibly something in the system.    We've got good tech support people here.....help them to help us!

McAfee is apparently having the same problem with yesterday's update that we had recently -- 20 minutes to get to 1% download completed.   I tried it again today, same thing -- 20 minutes to get to only 1% complete.   Can you let them know in case they don't know, please?    McAfee sends me back to you since I have them through you.    And Mubarak's message (above) didn't get to me until yesterday; he wrote the post over a week ago, but I was never notified until yesterday.     Thank you.

Giving me your 24/7 overseas tech support phone number doesn't answer my question and is of no assistance to me at all.

I'm checking back to see if anybody has had the courtesy to answer my posting about updates on the McAfee Personal Firewall Plus for MSN.   I'm on dial-up, have been trying to do updates and am only up to 1% completed after 15 to 20 minutes.   At this rate, it would take hours and hours to complete; downloading the entire program from scratch didn't take that long, why should an update??   Had this same problem about 2 weeks ago and a few months back before that; both times the problem was at McAfee's end and an MSN tech support person at least had the courtesy to let me know that.   The phone number to your 24/7 overseas tech support call center is NOT an answer and is no help.   Can you tell me please -- is there a problem right now with our McAfee updates?   Do they know it, and are they working on it?   Might we expect a fix soon, as in the past?   Hello?   Anybody there??

Hi, Bob1  --  I'm so glad to FINALLY hear that I'm not the only one!   My last (as you put it) "reasonable and succcessful" update was 7563, the one after yours.   I had the exact same "symptoms" back in April; I was told then that McAfee For MSN had an issue.   About two weeks ago, I had the exact same thing; again, I was told that McAfee For MSN had an issue.   And both times, the issue was corrected.   This time I've been told that McAfee For MSN has NO issue, the problem must be at my end.   Really???   I don't think so.   I keep trying the update every night; same thing  --  about 15 to 20 minutes to 1%, another 5 to 10 minutes to 2%, etc.   Thank you so much for posting.   You made my day, no kidding.    mrshvd3

Hi,

Sorry for theinconvenience, we have reported few issues where the new MacAfee updates arenot going through, please wait for the next update of MacAfee and it shouldresolve the problem automatically. On dial up connection there is a possibilityit might take longer than usual to download any new updates for MacAfee.

Regards,

Mubarak

MSN Dial-Up customers are well aware of their internet connection speeds and the length of time required to download “reasonable” McAfee updates.  This update . . . as was the update in April . . . as was the update two weeks ago . . . are each approximately 150 mb in size.

This is a recurring problem . . . the sizes alone should have alerted McAfee that these updates were flawed.

A week since the last “reasonable” and successful update . . . McAfee now alerts me to the fact that “Your computer is at risk”!

Has McAfee acknowledged that they have a problem? . . . A recurring problem?

Do they know how to fix it?Report as Abuse
