I will see if it does after making this change on desktop and will do same on laptop. The IE9 opening up usually occurs when I try to close one of a couple of MSN explorer windows I open, before that MSN page has fully loaded with data, thus a IE9 opens, with multiple tabs of whatever I was closing in MSN explorer. Often then have to use task mgr to close that IE9 browser with the multiple tabs

I have IE9 (Internet Explorer 9) but keep getting the error message that I am running an earlier version in compatibility mode (an example website is http://www.ToledoBlade.com). No problem with AOL or using IE directly, just accessing the internet through MSN. I also get a similar message when accessing my website in Microsoft Office Professisonal Plus - but ONLY when accessing through MSN. Something is not set correctly in MSN, but I cannot figure out what. When I open IE9, none of the compability boxes are checked, and again, I have no problem accessing those same websites that MSN has trouble connecting to.

Hi,

Try the folowing instructions.

1: Close all MSN browser windows .
2: Open MSN , Dont sign in .
3: Press CTRL+SHIFT+F11 . you should see a pop-up saying 'Remove account' click on it .
4: Open MSN butterfly and finish the MSN installation wizard by entering your email address and password .
5: Now try to sign in using your MSN butterfly .

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Ron

still had the issue of closing an open MSN explorer window and that triggers IE9 window to open the same page I was viewing in MSN Explorer. This was after trying your suggestion of "Uncheck "Automatically recover from page layout errors with Compatibility View" Click on OK to save the settings"

Did it, but no luck. I removed the account, then signed up again (and yes, I DID get all my stuff back thank goodness). Even rebooted several times, but I still get the error message.

When I access a number of sites (BoA, and others) and try to update infomation they just lock up, This problem has been getting progressively worse over time (more and more sites). When I access these same sites using IE9 there is no problem with any of them.
