Cannot reinstall McAfee, or Windows Live Essentials after having to do a system recovery

The other day I had to do a complete system recovery ( NOT RESTORE ), and now when I try to reinstall McAfee, it starts the download but when it gets almost done it starts to roll back and unistall. I heard that there may still be parts of McAfee on the computer that is stopping the install but I cannot find out how to remove them. Is there a McAfee clean up tool that I can use to do this? I also lost the Windows Live Essentials, and the original messenger would not install so I have no messenger. I would greatly appreciate any and all help I can get, as I need my computer for work. I am running Windows XP if that helps. Thanks.

Hi,

If after recovery you were not able to install several programs, there might have been some components of the computer's Operating System that has gone corrupted. Do you have McAfee installed before on the computer? You may want to try running the clean up tool for McAfee before reinstalling it and let us know the results. But first, here are the steps needed before running the tool:

RESET INTERNET SETTINGS

  1. Close MSN and all open windows

  2. Windows XP: Click Start then select Run | Windows Vista/7: Press the windows key + R on the keyboard
  3. Type inetcpl.cpl inside the Run box.
  4. In the Internet Properties window, click on Advanced at the top
  5. Click on Reset at the bottom part of the window.
  6. On the small pop-up window, make sure that the box is checked then click on Reset again.

Restart the computer if prompted.

About the problem for Window Live Essentials where WL Messenger is included, what is the exact error message you were getting when trying to install it?

Hi,
Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately it didn't work. I tried the reset, the McAfee cleanup tool, and the reinstall, and it still would not install. The error I got was: Installation Incomplete  " We couldn't install any of the security features included with your software. To fix this you can: 1) Try installing them again ( didn't work ), 2) Run McAfee Virtual Technician ( Didn't work because it couldn't detect McAfee obviously since it didn't install), 3) Contact McAfee support for more information". As far as the Windows Live Essentials the error I get is: " Try installing Windows Live programs again ( didn't work ). Programs were not installed because the installation was canceled. aborted 0x80004004. Any help would be appreciated as this system recovery has caused me nothing but headaches, this is just part of the problems I am having trying to get this all back the way it was.

This could mean a system failure on the computer. Please contact the computer's manufacturer so they can further assist you since we do not have enough resources for the said concern.
