When trying to send slide shows with emails, we get the notice that MSN Photos is not available (or something very much like that.) MSN says there will be a "silent" update that will fix this. It has been weeks since I first reported it and was told that. We pay $80 for Premium, but MSN seems always to drag its feet. Is there anyone from MSN out there who can comment on this problem? All I get from "support" is the "will be."

Hi zammer,

I understand that you are unable to send slide show emails as gets notices as MSN Photos is not available.

Need more information:

a. What operating system are you using?

b. What is the version of MSN Software?

Things to try:

We need to perform clean uninstallation and Reinstall MSN software:

1. Disclaimer: Backup the emails and MSN 6 folder before performing uninstallation as once the data is deleted or lost we will be unable to retrieve them.

a. How to backup my e-mails using the MSN Explorer software?

   http://answers.msn.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=d830f08c-414d-49ae-91cb-df58aa44832f

Take Backup of MSN6 folder and Save it to the desktop

C:\Users\ <USER_NAME> \AppData\Roaming\MSN6- if you are using Windows 7 or Vista.

C:\Document and Settings\ <USER NAME> \Application Data\MSN6\ - if you are using Windows XP

2. Disclaimer: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. Please check the private data for the steps to uninstall MSN software from the registry.

b. How to Uninstall MSN software:

Husna, I worked with MSN tech support, including uninstalling and reinstalling MSN, before  they discovered they couldn't send slideshow photos, either. It was not my problem, they said, but a systemwide MSN error, which they were working on. That was about Aug 8.  This was confirmed in writing by email from "Daniel" at MSN support on 26 August, saying, "There was a confirmed server outage and most of our customers are facing issue with MSN Photo slideshow, also I am happy to let you know soon there will be a silent upgrade to the MSN browser to resolve this issue,." When I replied that the problem was already weeks old, I received (not from "Daniel") exactly the same questions you posted. I replied as I am to you. Neither of you understand that I wasn't reporting the problem again, but that MSN still hasn't fixed ITS problem.

MSN, in its patented To Hell With The Customer mode, has in its latest update (July 2011) deleted the slideshow capability from MSNmail. (A few "updates" back, they deleted another MSNmail feature.) Tech Support tells me it can't be done in Hotmail, either. None of the many MSN support reps whom, after July,  I've spoken to, "chatted" with online, or deal with by email about the inability to send slide shows were aware that MSN had deleted slideshow capability. A resolution specialist told me today (Aug 28). What does that say about MSN tech support? Can anyone give me a reason why MSN Premium mail is now worth $80 a year (if it ever was)? I'm going to see if I can get a refund.

A Resolution Specialist and a phone support tech told me that Photo Share was deleted by a July update to MSN and will not be coming back. Another MSN tech support rep insists that a "silent update" will soon return Photo Share to MSN mail. Does any have the facts about this?

can no longer attach photos to emails...looked to your "similar questions" and found a msg that states PHOTO SHARE is no longer a service, may or may not be returning....there was no answer response to that person's question.  So, what happened?  How to get the service back?  Do I have to go to another company? Purchase something else?!

Hi Red,

I have a few updates for you.

1) We have NOT decommissioned photo sharing.  We have simply changed the location where the photos are stored.  They are now uploaded to Windows Live SkyDrive.  The Photo Sharing capability in MSN Mail still exists.

2) We have discovered an issue that is preventing some customers from seeing the Share Photos option.   We have a fix in place and are in the process of validating it.  We hope to have it released by next week, and you will automatically receive the update.

Thank you,
Berit

You have decommissioned "Share Photos." It has not been uploaded to SkyDrive, which is very different. It doesn't accept all photos, as Share Photos did, and doesn't have the same slideshow program as Share Photos did. To say "Photo Sharing capability in MSN Mail still exists.," as you do is misleading, photos can be shared, but less conveniently than with Share Photos, with less options and flexibility than with Share Photos, subject to censorship. "Share Photos" appears on the MSNmail Write Screen, and photos can be placed in an email, but it gets no further than the OUTBOX, where it stops, with the message that Photo Share is not "currently" available, the message can be sent, but not with photos.
Instead of posting erroneous information, I suggest you familiarize yourself with what the problem is.

Thank you for the information you’ve shared zammer.  You can check if there is an issue with Share Photos by sending a test email to yourself.  There should be a message at the bottom of the email saying that the MSN Photo E-mail slideshow will only be available for 30 days.

The slide show option should still be available. However, if there is no photo editing software like Picture it or Digital Imaging Suite, not all the features will be able to work.

Feel free to reply to this post for any questions and feedback.

Thanks!
