New messages to my new MSN email account are automatically going into Trash!

I've been watching this carefully, and for some reason my new email address receives messages into the Inbox, but after I access them they automatically move into the Trash box!  I tried emptying Trash, but the new messages still default there.  I've tried over and over to move them back into the Inbox, and they stay there briefly, but then when I go back in to MSN,  I find that they have ALL ended up in Trash!

What could be causing this?  This was happening before I uninstalled the Qwest version and reinstalled MSN.  I thought that would solve the problem, but it's still happening.  As a result, my Outlook messages are doing the same thing!  It only happens with my NEW email address!

Hi Mssp8s,

 

To help you further with the email issue we need to validate the following information:


1.  What is the Operating System you use?

2.  What is the version of MSN Software?

 


Firstly I would suggest you to check whether you have configured you outlook application correctly and also please check if you have check the option which says “leave a copy of the message on the server”.

 


To check for the above information please check the below steps:

 


Open Outlook

Click on Tools in the drop down click on Account settings

Select your Email address Click on more settings

In the advance tab please check the option “leave a copy of the message on the server”.

 

Please revert back for further assistance.

1.  I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit
2.  MSN software is the very latest - 10.1 - installed 3/15/11

Your instructions for Outlook do not appear in my 2003 Outlook version.  I'm sure the "leave a copy of the message on server" has been checked, because on a tech support call a while back the technician walked me through it, but I can't seem to locate where it resides in Outlook now.  In any case, the problem is still occurring in Hotmail, Outlook, and MSN.  I checked Outlook Connector and it is a 32-bit application.  Would this make a difference?  Is there a 64-bit version of Outlook Connector?  I've tried deleting and reinstalling the email accounts, and I even added a Hotmail account with the new MSN email address to Outlook, but only the new MSN email address is making new messages default to Trash once they briefly show up in the Inbox.  My older Qwest (q.com) email address is opening in the Inbox normally.

Hi ,

Please check if you are able to view your emails under the hotmail website http://www.hotmail.com/ .

If so then try rename .sdf files. Please find the steps below to rename .sdf files

For Windows Vista/Windows 7

Note: Sign out from MSN then close the program before performing the steps below.

  

          1. Click ‘Start’

          2. In the Search box, type the following: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSN

          3. Press the ENTER key

         

          The MSN folder will open.

 

          4. In the MSN folder, do the following:                       

 

               a. Click ‘Organize’, ‘Folder and Search options’, then ‘View’

               b. Put a dot on ‘Show hidden files and folders’

               c. Uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’ and ‘Hide protected operating system files options’

               d. Click ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’

 

         The db30 folder will appear inside the MSN folder.

 

          5. Open the db30 folder then look for files that end as msn-com.sdf and msn-com_JMF.sdf

          6. Right-click, choose ‘Rename’ and add .old after .sdf to both these files

          7. Close the db30 folder

1.  Yes--I can access the messages through Hotmail--but they default to Trash, too!

2.  I followed your instructions to the letter, but unfortunately that resulted in no access to the MSN email program at all.  I even rebooted--but it just showed the MSN splash screen with my picture and sign-in info, but it froze up so I couldn't click it without a constant hourglass, and finally an error message that MSN wasn't responding.  I tried this twice.  I went back in and changed the two files back to .sdf, rebooted, and now I am able to get in to MSN again.  However, the new messages--including the MSN notification that there was a new message in the Solution Center--had disappeared once again into the Trash box.

Is there a subscription to MSN that doesn't involve having to use the Premium components such as the anti-virus and backup programs?  I have all that but would like to occasionally contact MSN when problems like these come up.  With the economy subscription, writing back and forth seems so inefficient.  Qwest will no longer support my issues (although I'm paying the same as when I originally signed up with MSN email), and it's taking forever to resolve the simplest issues with getting my new email address up and running with MSN.

What is the charge for a phone call to resolve this issue???

UPDATE - My mistake on following your instructions with renaming the .sdf files.  I actually had REPLACED the .sdf with .old instead of adding .old onto the end.  When I did this correctly, my email became available again.

HOWEVER, the new messages are still automatically going to TRASH.  In addition, I've been checking Hotmail, and for several days my new enail address and photo have been on the initial screen.  This morning I was unable to send mail from my new email address through MSN, and I noticed a yellow triangle with exclamation point next to my MSN primary (new) email account.  I went back to Hotmail, and the photo and new email address had disappeared!  I had to "sign in with different ID" in order to access it.  Then, as I've seen TWICE before, it indicated that my password was not valid!  After entering my password, Hotmail AGAIN required me to list the validation letters before I could get access to my account!  How many times must I do this?  Also, why--after being signed in for days--would Hotmail drop my identity and require me to validate it again?  I am very concerned that the whole Hotmail/MSN email system is unstable and I can't afford to continue to lose messages or spend time trying to figure out what is wrong.

Would a "clean install" prevent these problems from occurring?  Is MSN in constant flux since severing its relationship with Qwest?  Is anyone else going through all these problems?

This issue can be caused due to faulty pop3 configuration

 

Perform these steps and check if the issue gets resolved

 

Step: 1

 

Visit http://account.live.com and sign in using your email address and password.

 

Reset the password for the account (Make sure its strong with a mix of alphabets, numerals & special characters)

 

Sign in to www.hotmail.com and check if there is any forwarding options turned on

 

Clicks on options then more options then “under managing your account” click on Email forwarding,

 

Choose the option "Don’t Forward" and then click save.

 

Step: 2

 

Sign into msn butterfly and try sending a test email to yourself and check if the email loads on inbox.

Unfortunately, none of the suggestions provided so far have worked for this new email address.  After trying all of the recommendations a number of times, I gave up on attempting to resolve the problem.  Instead,  I notified all the contacts that I had previously given the new email address to and changed it back to my Qwest email address.

Alternatively, I performed a different test by creating a new additional MSN account with a new email address.  That account works normally--the messages come in to the Inbox with no problem.   Instead of trying to transfer or copy folders to this account (which I have been unable to figure out how to do), I retyped them all so I would have a "clean" account to work with.  The only problem is that the newer email address is not the prime administrator, so it doesn't recognize me by name when the voice greeting opens the account.  I added it as a shared administrator in the interim.

I continue to have Hotmail issues with the primary account (the one that still defaults to Trash).  About every 3 or 4 days an exclamation point shows up on the Inbox indicating that no email is being delivered.  I have to go into Hotmail and sign in again.   For some reason, Hotmail keeps signing this account out and does not like having two accounts in my name, allthough I used my nickname on one of them.

I plan on using the new MSN email as my primary one but I don't know how to change it from "shared administrator" to "primary administrator."  If you could tell me how to do this, I'd appreciate it.

Hi mssp8s,

 

You cannot change your secondary email account to primary email account . However you can cancel the current MSN subscription and then sign up with the secondary email account as a primary acccount.
