MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT MY EMAIL ADDRESS STAYS THE SAME. i HAVE HUNDREDS OF FORUMS AND ACCOUNTS THAT ARE REGISTERED WITH MY MSN EMAIL ADDRESS.

Once the account gets cancelled, your email address will remain as is and will be accessible via hotmail.com. These are the features that will be changed:

You will not be able to use the MSN software(butterfly) for viewing mail. E-mails in the “Folders on your computer” section will not appear when you go to the Hotmail web site. You can check this by signing in to the MSN software and clicking the Mail & More icon at the top. Aside from this, here are the other changes:
    1. Termination of free McAfee Anti-virus and Firewall program/ Webroot Anti-Spyware program subscription.
    2. Banner ads will be enabled in the Hotmail.com and My.MSN.com web sites.
    3. Your Safe Address limit will decreasefrom 500 to 250. This helps avoid e-mail messages from valid contacts landing in the Junk e-mail folder
    4. Account expiration. You need to log in to Hotmail regularly to keep your account active. Accounts are deactivated if you have not logged in at least once every 270 days. Once an account becomes inactive, all email messages and contacts information are deleted from the server and cannot be retrieved even if the account is reactivated.
    5. Automatic Email Forwarding is disabled for domains not hosted by Microsoft (ex. Yahoo, Gmail)

Feel free to reply to this post for any questions and feedback.

    Thanks!

Thank you , I only have one other question. I have not used the butterfly to log in, I have been using Windows live hotmail. Are you saying all of the folders that I currently have in windows live will go away?

You're welcome. :)

You will still be able to access the folders but the initial email storage limit will be reduced from 10000 MB to 5000 MB. You may check your email storage by logging in to Hotmail and pointing on the Folders at the upper left side and clicking on the gear icon to select Manage folders.

The total storage is found at the bottom of the page. If it is more than 5000 MB, you will have to delete some of the email messages to make sure that nothing will be missing once the account is cancelled.

Hope this helps.

If I do nothing I will still be able to access my mail thru hotmail, but when I presently sign into hotmail my ID is
@msn.com and not @hotmail.com   will I still be able to see my hotmail emails by signing with @msn.com?
If not what step do I take?

A follow up, you say once the account gets cancelled my email address will remain as is and will be accessible via hotmail.com. My question, when I log into my hotmail account, I use @msn.com and not @hotmail.com, is that still going to work and are you saying that people will still be able to email me using my address @msn.com and I will be able to get my mail at the hotmail address?  So you are clear: when I log into hotmail account the log in is    {removed email address}           Thanks for any help you can shed

Again, the e-mail address will ermain as is. It will not change to another domain. You can actually try right now to sign into http://www.hotmail.com  and use your e-mail address as is. There will be no change when it comes to the username (email address)
