Cannot send or receive MSN email in Outlook 2007

When I try to send email from my MSN account in Outlook 2007 I get the message

Task 'MSN - MAPI - Sending and Receiving' reported error(0x80040126) : 'The operation cannot be performed because the connection to theserver is offline.'

My account was working fine until before last overnight Windows Update.

More Info:

1) The account works fine through the web interface.

2) The account works fine in Outlook 2013 on another PC (other location).

3) Outlook 2007 works fine with other accounts (e.g., gmail).

4) I created a new email account with my MSN email address, same problem.

5) I uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook Connector, same problem.

6) The problem is on a Win 7 64-bit machine, with 32-bit MS Outlook 2007 Enetrprise.

I suspect the problem was created by some incompatibility with last night's Windows Update which was

Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2964358) Installation date: ‎5/‎8/‎2014 3:01 AM

Should I just wait it out until Microsoft fixes the problem? What else can I do?

Thanks,

ESA

Hello Stathis,

The problem is occurring because of the synchronization problem on your outlook 2007, as you mentioned the problem started after certain windows update which might have corrupted the settings to synchronize your emails. Please follow the blow mentioned steps to re-configure the account.

1.

Start Outlook.

2.

On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts .

3.

Click Add a new e-mail account , and then click Next .

4.

Click POP3 , and then click Next .

5.

In the Your Name box, type the name that you want your e-mail recipients to see.

6.

In the Incoming Mail Server (POP3) box, type pop3.live.com .

7.

In the E-mail Address box, type your complete e-mail address. The following is an example of a complete e-mail address: your_name@msn.com

8.

In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) box, type smtp.live.com .

9.

In the User Name box, type your complete e-mail address. The following is an example of a complete e-mail address: your_name@msn.com

10.

Select the Remember Password check box.

11.

In the Password box, type your account password.

12.

Click More Settings .

13.

Click the Outgoing Server tab, and then select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication check box.

14.

Select the Use same settings as my incoming mail server check box.

15.

On the Advanced tab, under Server Port numbers , select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Incoming and Outgoing mail . Make sure the Incoming mail port is now set to 995 and Outgoing mail port is set to 25. Click OK .

16.

Click Next , and then click Finish .

If the issue persist please contact windows outlook team.

Sincerely,

Mubarak

I am not sure my reply got posted, so I repeat it:

Thank you, Mubarak. Unfortunately it did not work. Also I would prefer not to set it up as a POP3 account.. How do I contact the Outlook team?

Thank you Mubarak! I just circumvented the problem by installing the MSN account on Outlook 2007 as an IMAP/SMTP account (instead of using the failing MS Office Outlook Connector) using the same setting I had for the account on Outlook 2013 at work. Thanks again for all your help, it meant a lot at a time of stress and panic!
