It is possible that your account settings in MSN are already corrupted. I will be providing the steps to fix this. Before you follow them, please make sure that you back up all e-mails that are stored in 'Folders in your Computer' on your MSN making sure that we won't lose anything in the process.

Please follow the Method 1 steps on this link to back up the email messages: http://answers.msn.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=d830f08c-414d-49ae-91cb-df58aa44832f  If you have several e-mail accounts, sign in on the other email address then follow the steps on the link but change the last part of the file name so that you can identify the backed up email. For example, instead of leaving it as MSN_Mail.msnbak you can change it to MSN_(e-mail address).msnbak.

Once the email messages are backed up, please follow the steps on this link to perform CTRL+SHIFT+F11 which refreshes the account settings: http://answers.msn.com/thread.aspx?threadid=d2de6731-17a3-41fd-9fde-c9185947dfc5

Feel free to reply to this post for any questions and feedback.

Thanks!

Followed your thread, not only can't remember password, but I now lost my other accounts. Email showed up after 4 or 5 tries even though it said it couldn't.

Please list the e-mail addresses that whow up in the sign in window. We'll check if those are the accounts associated with the primary address.

As for saving the password, there may be a need to do a clean reinstallation of the software now. Follow the steps below.

Well it's hours later and now it still won't remember my password or my wife {removed email address} and now it's lost all my years of faviortes, besides killing my internet connection every so often.

Have you followed the steps that I provided? After you do the steps I provided, Start MSN but do not sign in. Then, do a similar process with what Isabelle provided - only this time you press CTRL SHIFT and F9.

Then stay online for some time. The software should be able to download your account data which includes the favorites.

Yes I follow your instructions! Well it's 24 hours later and my favorites are still missing and so is my wifes' account. When I checked my stored emails there were 3 copies of each email in each stored folder.

Try deleting the duplicated messages. Please tell us what happens when you try to do that and what folder name it was on.

For the Favorites, we'll need to take a look at the file that saves the said links on your computer. Please follow the steps below and upload  it.

I was able to delete extra copies. They were in all of my stored email folders. What ever happened duplicated the stored emails, but not the folders. Do you think my 10 or 12 years of favorites is gone for good?

Thank you for your time and patience regarding this concern.

I was able to check the favorites you’ve attached and rest assured that they’re not corrupted and MSN should be able to download them from the servers. Since we already have a copy of the favorites.xml on the Desktop, please follow the steps provided by Natasha last Monday, February 20, 2012 11:20 AM  but this time delete favorites.xml inside the Userdata folder.

The last part is to refresh the local data storage:

1. Start MSN, but do not sign in. When the sign-in screen appears, press CTRL+SHIFT+F9.

Important You should receive a warning about removing the e-mail information. If you instead receive a warning about removing the account information, you may have pressed CTRL+SHIFT+F11 instead of CTRL+SHIFT+F9. If you receive the account information warning, do not confirm this action when you are prompted.

2. When you are prompted to confirm your action, click Yes , and then click Yes again.

3. Restart MSN, and then sign in.

4. After signing in, wait for about 15-20 minutes for the MSN software to synchronize your favorites before checking if the issue gets resolved.

As for your wife’s missing email address, I tried to check her account and it seems that it is not associated with your primary account. Please follow the steps on this link to add her again:
