need to connect from Outlook 2003 to my msn.com account - what are the MSN server settings?

I get connection errors in Outlook 2003 when I add my msn.com email account.  I need to know the correct setting fa supported connection - either POP3 or IMAP.   i have connected successfully to my gmail account.

Hi,

 

How exactly you are trying to configure or setup theaccount, if its on outlook software please configure the account by using thebelow pop3 settings.

 

Please find the pop3 settings for Hotmail/outlook/msnemail addresses.

 

Incoming settings:

username: emailaddress@outlook.com

password: your password

pop3 server: pop3.live.com

port: 995

security type: SSL/TLS

Delete email from server: never

 

Outgoing Settings:

SMTP Server: smtp.live.com

Port: 587

Security Type: STARTTLS

Require Sign-in: YES 

Username: same as username above

Password: same as above

Fast forward to 2020, and the same problem started for me earlier this year.  I'm still on Office 2003, and it's all I need for what I do, but something changed, and I am no longer able to send pop3 outlook email from Cox, my internet provider.

The settings that are proposed:

Outgoing Settings:

SMTP Server: smtp.live.com

Port: 587

Security Type: STARTTLS

  

are different than what I've had for many years.  It seems the issue might be is that there is no 'STARTTLS' security type available in Outlook 2003.  The settings that worked until recently are Port 465, and SSL encryption.  Any one have an easy fix (without having to upgrade)?
