How do I delete MSN messenger

How do I delete MSN Messenger? It does not appear on when I look in remove programs.
I recently updated Windows Live, now windows Live Messenger starts up when I start computer and a Live messenger screen pops up when I log onto the internet. I tried usin the disable on startup instructions but they do not keep Messenger from starting up. I'm using Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3
Windows Explorer 8.
