Dashboard display of selected stocks

Recently my selected stock symbols do not display in the dashboard without my intervention. The indices do display. I can get my selections to display if I edit the selections. However, even when that's done, the displayed stock symbols can disappear later in the day. Is this a known issue? If so, is there a fix? Thanks!

It's possible that the configuration is not getting saved. You can try resetting MSN:

1. Sign out of MSN
2. Start MSN but do not sign in yet
3. Press CTRL SHIFT and F11 together. If done correctly, it will sk to remove account.
4. Proceed to remove account.
5. Start MSN, and go through the configuration. Then sign into MSN.

I have my personal MSN email account and another business POP3 account with mail forwarded to MSN for viewing (separate inbox and so on). Does this complicate things?

From what you suggest, it seems like my account would, in fact, be removed. Forgive me for being skeptical, but I've had MSN offer advice in the past that's been nothing short of disasterous.

Do I really want to roll the dice and risk losing everything to solve a dashboard annoyance?

Can you provide a bit more reassurance? Thanks!

For you not to worry about any possible loss of email message, kindly follow the steps on this link http://answers.msn.com/thread.aspx?postid=1c74a57f-8706-4adf-8499-17c3d01502c1#1c74a57f-8706-4adf-8499-17c3d01502c1 to back up your email messages (MSN Folder) to the Desktop before performing CTRL+SHIFT+F11 which refreshes the account settings.  Please take note that the steps are marked in green and dated Wednesday, November 09, 2011 7:13 PM

The other information like Favorites, Address book and Calendar are saved on the server so you don't have to worry about them.

Feel free to reply to this post for any questions and feedback.

Thanks!

Thanks for your detailed reply. I have a few remaining questions:
  • Will my POP3 email that's forwarded to MSN (stored on MSN servers) be included in the copy of my MSN folder for temporary storage on my Desktop (presumably yes)?
  • When a "copy" is made of my MSN folder, stored on my Desktop and then recopied back, might this not make two of everything?
  • Are any email MSN folders that are stored on my computer (e.g., Drafts) protected from any mishaps that may occur in trying to refresh my MSN settings?

Thanks again!

If you're not really using the "Folders on your Computer" section, there is no need to create a backup as the e-mail on "Folders on MSN" secrtion are saved on the server.  Only the mail under 'Folders on your Computer' are to be backed up.

I'm confused. It seems that you're last reply is self-contradictory:
  • "If you're not really using the "Folders on your Computer" section, there is no need to create a backup..."
  • "Only the mail under 'Folders on your Computer' are to be backed up."

Some folders under "Folders on your Computer" are used (e.g., Drafts).

In the interim, I've discovered that MSN (from its Money page - Where's my List) has admitted it changed settings in an effort to improve ease of use. User's are supposed to able to Log Out (I assume from the Money page) and log back in to reset. However, there is no way to log out, as far as I can tell.

In addition, the Watchlist that exists on my signed-in Money page is old, does not match my Dashboard list and does not permit deletion of items by clicking on the X next to each - as is supposed to happen. I have no idea what will happen if I click on Clear List (probably nothing).

I had no trouble with the Dashboard list until I suddenly did. In the past, I've found MSN the probably source of instant problems. This may be another one. Trying to creatively fix it could be very counterproductive. I'd like to think that MSN will eventually fix it themselves, if enough people draw their attention to it. Agree?

I'm not sure how that could be contradictory as it basically means that "Only the mail under 'Folders on your Computer' are to be backed up." and that there is no need to create a backup "If you're not really using the "Folders on your Computer"

The gist of it is that if you are not using  that section, there is no need to create a backup.

Now, if there are only a few mail in there, you can simply transfer them to a folder under "Folders on MSN" as a way to back them up. Then there is no need to go through all the trouble of going into the motions of the actual backup.

As for the actual issue here, this may indeed be related to what you found out and I'll send a feedback here hoping to reach the MSN Money department. But it will be best if you send the feedback yourself as they look at user feedback seriously.
