It seems a server is down. Not getting my e-mails

At about 3:00 today, I have not been able to get any e-mails. I have tried on two computers ( in two locations), I have tried my outlook and my hotmail account. I have sent messages to myself with two different e-mail systems. Nothing is getting through to me, yet the tests are being sent. Plus, how do I know if you have responded if I am not getting my e-mails?

When an issue is out of my hands, and probably with msn, how can I find out how to get back in service?

Not to worry, you can check this site for the reply and server status. If there is a server issue, it will be posted as a banner at the top of http://answers.msn.com. Just make sure to sign in with your email address and password to make sure that you'll be able to see all the information on the post.

As for not being able to receive even the test email you've been sending even through Hotmail, it could be possible that the email forwarding is turned on. Please follow these steps to turn it off:

1. Type www.hotmail.com on the address bar and press Enter on the keyboard
2. A small window will appear. Click on "Go to Hotmail Web Site"
3. Please go to the Inbox. At the upper right, select Options then click More options.
4. Under Managing your account, select Email forwarding. Make sure to select Don’t forward. If there is an email address, probably a hacker's, please copy it and send it to abuse@msn.com so it will be reported then reset your password by following the steps on this link: http://answers.msn.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=a6ba4545-9937-48d3-b715-f48da1113d31

If the email forwarding is turned off, there is a possibility that a custom filter is preventing email messages from being received. Please follow these steps to remove them:

1.       Sign in on Hotmail.

2.       Once the Inbox is shown, click on Options on the top right-hand side of the page then select More Options.

3.       Under Customizing Hotmail, click on Rules for sorting new messages.
4.    Put a check if there are any rules set up then click Delete to remove them.

Lastly, you may also check iPad's POP3 settings. There should be an option to select Leave a copy of the email messages on the server. If this is not selected, the email messages cannot be seen on the Hotmail or other email program except on your iPad.

If the same issue persists, please check the Private Message area below.

Feel free to reply to this post for any questions and feedback.

Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback.

I've checked the email server and found out that there is no maintenance ongoing and that the email account is enabled and properly provisioned. As for missing test email messages sent between 3-7, I've checked the Sent folder on Hotmail and there was no test email message sent to yourself. I do suggest to send a test email through Hotmail.com for future issues.

As for banner on top, if you click on the arrow pointing down beside
There is currently an issue reported that may impact your ability to use our products and services.
, then it will give you fruther information if there is a server maintenance that may affect your email address.

I'm starting to panic now. I am an Instructor at a college and my class just did their midterm during the outage. All the exams were E_Mailed from a resident-memory application. If we cannot recover the E-Mails, I am at a loss as to what to do with the students grade. I need to know who I can recover the lost 4 hours of E-Mails from.

Some of the E-Mails are now coming through, but not all of them.

I did send a test E-Mail through my hotmail account. Now, My sent messages folder has been emptied and I have no way to show you????

The follow-up text on the yellow warning message talks about phone troubles with Verizon customers. So it does now answer my question nor pertatin to me as I am not a Verizan customer.

There is a chance to recover deleted email messages however it could be a slim chance especially if it was deleted more than 24 hours. Please follow these steps:

Recovering mail through Hotmail

1. Go to folder named 'Deleted'
2. At the bottom, look for the part that says "Lost a message? When you recover deleted messages, we bring back as many as we can"

The "recover deleted messages" part is a link that you can click on. Try to check if you can see the deleted Test email on the Deleted folder.

Try to observe if the delay in receiving email messages only happened between 3-7 since it could just be a temporary server maintenance or a possible slowness on the high speed connection.

Some/most of my missing E-Mails have finally arrived, but there are still some missing. How can I check to see if or when they will arrive? My students are going to be very disappointed if their exams don't show up. Think about when you were in college, what would you think if your 2 hour exam got eaten by the MSN machine? What can I tell them? MSN won't let me talk to them about getting these back!

I'm glad that some/most of the missing email messages have finally arrived. Receiving email messages also depend on the sender's email program which was used to send the email. Is this the first time that there was a delay in you receiving their email messages?

Also, if the attachment is a bit large, there can be a delay in having their email server send the email to the MSN server.

You may also ask the students to check if their email may have gotten stuck on their Outbox. If not, kindly ask them to re send the email message since it should be found on their Sent folder.

Hope this helps! Please don't hesitate to reply to this post for additional questions.

Thanks!

The exam is resident in a browser using HTML elements/tags. They are in a classroom when they take the exam. The computers are wiped of any history/work each day. The HTML "form" is mailed directly to my MSN account. You have the only copy available. No attachments.

I have used this method for six years. This is the first time any delay has happened.

I need to talk to someone at MSN who knows where the problem exists. And can we stop blaming everyone else but MSN? The problem is at your facility/system.
