Hello,

I have an MSN Premium account through Verizon DSL on my home computer it uses Windows 7 from HP, it is a new computer.

Problem is my inbox has disappeared in my home computer and recently my wife's inbox disappeared as well. If I log into my work computer I can use MSN Premium to see my emails, here I have Windows XP Professional. If I log into Hotmail I can see my emails (both home and work). What happened to my home computer? How do I fix this?

Regards,

Bob

Please check the version of MSN Explorer on the computer. You can get the version number by clicking "Help & Settings" then on "About MSN". If it is not 10.20, uninstall/reinstall through the following:

How to uninstall MSN Explorer: http://answers.msn.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=115dc6c5-4ae7-4e38-8e0b-3eac07d020fa

If you already have the latest version, which is 10.20, follow the steps to rename SDF:

Do not hesitate to reply to the forums.

Thanks!

You can refresh the MSN Premium Internet Software.

a. Start MSN but do not sign in.

b. Press CTRL+SHIFT+F11 and select Remove account and click yes.

c. Double click the MSN icon and complete the Installation screen

d. Sign into MSN and check for resolution.

Did that, now I can see messages in my inbox but I cannot read them. Here is the message that I get when I try to open one:

"Message could not be displayed", MSN Mail could not retrieve the message body from MSM Hotmail. Check to make sure you are still connected, and then try again."

The only recent change I made was I added 2 members to my MSN acount a couple of weeks ago. Everything seemed to work OK then. This problem appeared out of nowhere about 5 days ago.

Hello Bob,

Thank you for following the steps provided by Natasha and for your patience regarding this concern.

Since MSN has not been able to download email messages from the server, we’ll need to use the email synchronization tool that our Product Engineers developed.

Before you use this tool, please back up email messages saved under Folders on your Computer since you will lose them otherwise.  Please follow Method 1 on this link: http://answers.msn.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=d830f08c-414d-49ae-91cb-df58aa44832f.

If you are doing this process on several e-mail accounts, please change the last part of the file name so that you can identify the exported email. For example, instead of leaving it as MSN_Mail.msnbak you can change it to MSN_(e-mail address).msnbak.

Please check the Private Message area below for further information.

Feel free to reply to this post for any questions and feedback.

Thanks!

Isabelle

I used the synchronization tool and it worked! The emails are back and readable.

Thank you for all of your help. I appreciate it.

Bob

I have the same problem as "bobby" in this thread.  But after doing the step that comes before the resynchronization tool, I still do not have an inbox and am unable to send or receive email.  Should I try the next step?  In preparation I have tried unsuccessfully to back up my emails stored on this computer.

Hi kdeidaho,

If after following the steps provided that comes before the resynchronization tool did not work, means that the synchronization did not complete properly. Go on to the next step of using the Email Synchronization Tool, but before doing so, since you were unable to back up your local emails, here's another step you can follow.

1. Sign out of the MSN software.
2. Click on the Start button then click Run. Type %USERPROFILE% and click OK. A new window should appear.
3. Set the computer to display hidden files and folders by following the steps below.

        a. Click on Tools at the top of the window then click on Folder Options.
        b. In the Folder Options window, click on the View tab.
        c. In the Advanced Settings box, look for Hidden Files and Folders and click on Show hidden files and folders just below it.

        d. Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
        e. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
        f. Click Yes to confirm.
        g. Click Ok to close the Folder Options box.

4. Double-click the Local Settings folder.
5. Double-click the Application data folder.
6. Double-click the Microsoft folder.
7. Right-click the MSN folder and click Copy.
8. Close all open windows.
9. Right-click on any blank space in the Desktop and click Paste.
10. Wait until the MSN folder gets copied completely to the Desktop.

After following these steps you can then use the Email Synchronization Tool.

NOTE: To restore the email messages, just copy the MSN folder on the Desktop back to its original location

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Paolo M.
