For Windows Vista:

1.    Exit all programs, and then close all open windows.

2.    Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

3.    Click Hardware and sound.

4.    Click Phones and Modem Options.

5.    On the Modems tab, select the modem for which you want to run modem diagnostics. If you do not know which modem to select, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

6.    Click Properties.

7.    On the Modem tab, set the Maximum Port speed to 57600 (if the value is greater than 57600 and disabled ignore this step).

8.    On the Diagnostic tab, click Query Modem. If the modem responds and is functioning, the modem information is displayed.

For Microsoft Windows XP:

Note To follow these steps, use the default "Category" view of Control Panel instead of the "Classic" view.

1.    Exit all programs, and then close all open windows.

2.    Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

3.    Click Printers and Other Hardware. Click Phones and Modem Options. Click the Modems tab.

4.    Select the modem for which you want to run modem diagnostics. If you do not know which modem to select, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

5.    Click Properties. Click the Modem tab. Set the Maximum Port speed to 57600.

6.    Click the Diagnostic tab.

7.    Click Query Modem. If the modem responds and is functioning, the modem information is displayed.

For Microsoft Windows 2000:

1.    Exit all programs, and then close all open windows.

2.    Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3.    Click Phones and Modem Options.

4.    Click the Modems tab.

5.    Select the modem for which you want to run modem diagnostics. If you do not know what modem to select, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

6.    Click Properties. Click the Modem tab. Set the Maximum Port speed to 57600.

For Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition:

1.    Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.    Double-click the Modem icon. Click Properties.

3.    From the Maximum Speed list, select 57600.

4.    Click OK. Click the Diagnostic tab.

5.    Select the com port that is next to the modem for which you want to run modem diagnostics. If you do not know what modem to select, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

6.    Click More Info. If the modem responds and is functioning, the modem information is displayed.
