You see error 691 when trying to connect to the internet using windows network

 

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS

1.     Re-type your password.

2.     Select different access numbers.

              I.        Start MSN.

            II.        On the Welcome screen, click your name, but do not sign in.

           III.        Press the CTRL+SHIFT+F12 keys at the same time.

           IV.        Click Remove dialing credentials.

            V.        On the Warning screen, click Yes. The Installation Wizard may take several seconds to open.

           VI.        Click I am not currently connected, then enter your dialing options for call waiting and the option to dial a number for an outside line.

         VII.        Click Next. The MSN software will automatically dial a toll free number, authenticate your connection, and prompt you to type your password.

        VIII.        Select your primary e-mail address, or type your e-mail address and password, click Next. If your e-mail address and password are not recognized, retype your password, click Next.

           IX.        Type your area code and telephone number, click Next.

            X.        A list of access numbers will be displayed. Choose four or more local access numbers that you want your MSN software to dial when it makes a connection, then click Next.

           XI.        Determine whether you must add the number 1, or the area code, to each local access number. Enter the appropriate information for each access number, click Next.

         XII.        Select the acceleration level that you want to use for MSN Dial-Up Accelerator. The default setting is Level 2.

        XIII.        When you are prompted to configure dial-up access, click No, then click Next.

        XIV.        Type your name exactly as it is shown, click I Accept, then click Next.

         XV.        On the Welcome screen, sign in with your password.

        XVI.        Optimize your narrowband connection. To do this, follow the steps for your operating system.

For Windows Vista

a.     Click Start, type ncpa.cpl in the Start Search box, then press the Enter key.

b.    Right-click the manual connection you are currently using to connect to the internet, then click Properties.

c.     On the Networking tab, click to select the Protocol (TCP/IP) check box and the Client for Microsoft Networks check box.

d.    Click OK, then close the Network Connections window.

e.     Restart the computer.

For Windows XP

a.     Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, then press the Enter key.

b.    Right-click the manual connection you aare currently using to connect to the internet, then click Properties.

c.     On the Networking tab, click to select the Protocol (TCP/IP) check box and the Client for Microsoft Networks check box.

d.    Click OK, then close the Network Connections window.

e.     Restart the computer.
