SYMPTOMS:

You receive one of the following error messages when you try to use an existing hotmail.com or msn.com e-mail address to:

Sign up for a subscription
Install MSN software
Add a secondary account to your subscription

You receive one of the following error messages after typing in your e-mail address and password on the Welcome screen, and then clicking Next.

Error 176: We did not recognize your e-mail address and password. Please check the information you typed and try again.
Error 177: We did not recognize your e-mail address and password. Please check the information you typed and try again.

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS:

Make sure you enter the correct e-mail address and password when you sign up for a subscription, or installing MSN software, or adding a secondary account to your subscription, or sign into MSN.

SYMPTOMS:

You are configuring dial-up Internet access and you purchase a new subscription or trying to configure an existing subscription, or trying to upgrade to dial-up by using the Upgrade Wizard. You receive the following error message after you type your telephone number and click Next:

· MSN Dial-up may not be available in your area. Verify that the area code and telephone number that were entered are correct, and then click Next to check for Internet access numbers again.

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS:

1. Make sure that you entered your telephone number correctly.

2. Verify that any firewall and antivirus software is turned off by following the steps here.

3. Optimize Internet Explorer by following the steps here

4. If you are using Dial-Up and seeing this error, create a manual connection by following the steps:

Restart the installation, and then select the Yes, I am currently connected to the Internet option when you are prompted to make a selection. Once your installation has completed successfully, follow the steps here to turn on the MSN Dialer.

Dial-up customers: Since MSN Explorer provides your internet connection, you will not be able to follow the steps to install MSN Explorer online. Follow the instructions to order and install from a CD here. If you do not have a Dial-up CD please order a CD at http://cdorder.msn.com

Broadband Users: Ensure you are connected to the internet before downloading and installing the Client Software.

1. Open a new browser, go to https://membercenter.msn.com/article.aspx?pa=MC_ART_DownloadMSNSoftware

2. Sign-in using the primary email account

3. Click on Download and install the latest MSN software and click “Install Now”

4. Click “Run” when prompted and follow the download instructions.

5. On your desktop you should now see an icon “MSN Installer”. It may take up to a minute or two for the Installer icon to appear on the desktop

Note: if you do not see “copying files” or the “installation wizard” even after a minute or two click on the MSNInstaller.exe to launch the installation wizard

6. On the Are you currently connected to the Internet? page please selects I'm currently connected to the Internet and click Next

You were upgrade because changes are coming to the way that you sign into MSN Explorer. In order to better protect your account from malicious activity, Microsoft is updating the way that you sign into our services. Your MSN Welcome screen will look the same until you click on your user name. At that point, you will see a sign in screen that looks more like a web page. As with all new Microsoft Account screens, you will no longer have the option to save your password or work offline.

MSN11 is available to customers running Windows Vista or above, and existing subscribers will be automatically updated to the latest version.

To disable the “Shockwave Flash object” in IE 11, go to Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-ins and from Manage Add-ins, under the Toolbars and Extensions select “Shockwave Flash object” and then select the disable button.
