You call customer service for MSN - http://support.msn.com

When you cancel a paid @msn account, the address reverts to a free Hotmail account without any change to the address. You can then access it via http://www.hotmail.com  or any email program.

How to access Hotmail with various email programs:

You will no longer be able to use MSN Explorer, so move any email that is in "folders on computer" in MSN Explorer to server folders for your account such as the Inbox and allow them to sync to the server.
