freezes up
Latest post: Paolo M., Friday, June 29, 2012 12:25 AM
I have so much trouble with MSN freezing up my computer.  I encounter the issue continually where it says MSN has encountered a problem and we must shut down.  I have a lot of time invested in my MSN email address.   However, my patience with this situation is wearing thin.Yesterday, I wasted no less than an hour by signing in and being shut down or freezing up.  I could do nothing because the files I needed were previous emails stored in my MSN account. Please help me to solve/resolve this issue.

Hi Kathleen,Since you are receiving the internal error message, determine whether it is caused by a Windows .dll issue, or if the stop-responding symptom is caused by a corrupted MSN file. To do this, follow these steps: a. When the MSN internal error window is displayed, click click here. b. Next to ModName, you will find the .dll file that caused the MSN software to stop responding. This .dll file tells whether the cause of the issue is an MSN .dll file or a Windows .dll file. (Mention the .dll file name) OR • Windows Vista 1. Click Start, then type eventvwr in start search and hit enter on the keyboard. 2. In the left pane, click Windows Logs. 4. Double-click the Application folder. 5. In the right pane, click Filter Current Log. 6. In the Filter Current Log dialog box, select the Critical and Error check boxes, and then click OK. 7. In the right pane, click Find, and then type MSN. 8. Click Find Next. 9. Double-click the event to see the details about the error. 10. In the right pane, click Copy, and then click Copy Details as Text . 11. Paste the error information in the same post for further assistance • Windows XP 1. Click Start , then click Run. 2. In the run command windows type eventvwr and then click ok. 3. In the left pane click on Application. 4. Sort the events in the right pane of the log by event number, and then scroll to the events labeled 1000 and 1001. 5. Locate events that have a red X icon next to them and that have MSN Error Reporting in the Source column. Then, locate the events that have a date and a time that are close to the date and time when the errors occurred. 6. Double-click the event that you want to examine. 7. In the upper-right corner, click the button that resembles two pieces of paper. It is under the button that is labeled with a down arrow. This copies the error information to the Clipboard. 8. Paste the error information in the same post for further assistance Please revert back for further assistance. Thanks! Paolo M.

Paolo,I click on start and then in run type the info you supplied and get the reply C:\Documents is not found?  I am baffled because I didn't put C:\Documents in, I typed %userprofile%...as instructed by you.  You need to really spoon feed me on the steps.  Today had been a good day with my system, though.

To delete sdf file inside the DB30, here is another step to get to the folder path.
  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type a dot (.) inside the Run box
  4. On the new window, please click on Tools at the top then click on Folder Options. This would open the Folder Options window.
  5. In the Folder Options window, click on the View tab at the top. In the View tab, under Advanced Settings look for "Hidden files and folders" then click on "Show Hidden Files and Folders".
  6. Just below "Show hidden files and folders", uncheck both "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)".
  7. Click Yes on the Warning window. Then, click Apply and click OK to close the Folder Options window.
  8. Double-click the folders in the following order:

> Local Settings > Application data > Microsoft > MSN > db30 Till then you can follow the steps I provided you to delete sdf files. Let us know the resultsPaolo M.

Paolo,Boy, it would really help if you could talk me through this.  I can't even get on and stay on MSN 2day.  I followed your steps and got to db30.  Well, I don't have db30.  I have db.  There were lots and lots of files and I was scrolling through them to find msn.com.sdf and I right clicked on an earlier one to see the steps and it completely locked my computer up.  Please I am really at my witts end with this and am almost ready to ditch MSN completely.  If you can help me by some chat service or by phone let me know and I will send you my number.  I don't know if this is a post that others can see so I will not give my number unless you say so.ThanksKathleen
