Hi,I need to gather additional info on why this is happening on your msn software. There is also a possiblility that the program could be damaged or corrupted.

In order to help you better we need to validate the following information:

1.  What is the Operating System you use?2.  What is the version of MSN Software?3.  How long it’s been that you are facing this problem?4.  Where there any changes made on your computer?5. Check the system requirements.( to check the system requirements you can see this info by typing in "Dxdiag" on the start search box on the start menu or on the Run box )

Since you are receiving the internal error message, determine whether it is caused by a Windows .dll issue, or if the stop-responding symptom is caused by a corrupted MSN file. To do this, follow these steps: a. When the MSN internal error window is displayed, click click here.

b. Next to ModName, you will find the .dll file that caused the MSN software to stop responding. This .dll file tells whether the cause of the issue is an MSN .dll file or a Windows .dll file.  (Mention the .dll file name)

  OR

• Windows Vista

1.  Click Start, then type eventvwr in start search and hit enter on the keyboard. 2.   In the left pane, click Windows Logs. 4.  Double-click the Application folder. 5.  In the right pane, click Filter Current Log. 6.  In the Filter Current Log dialog box, select the Critical and Error check boxes, and then click OK. 7.  In the right pane, click Find, and then type MSN. 8.  Click Find Next. 9.  Double-click the event to see the details about the error. 10.  In the right pane, click Copy, and then click Copy Details as Text . 11.  Paste the error information in the same post for further assistance

• Windows XP

1.  Click Start , then click Run.2. In the run command windows type eventvwr and then click ok. 3. In the left pane click on Application.4. Sort the events in the right pane of the log by event number, and then scroll to the events labeled 1000 and 1001. 5.  Locate events that have a red X icon next to them and that have MSN Error Reporting in the Source column. Then, locate the events that have a date and a time that are close to the date and time when the errors occurred.  6.  Double-click the event that you want to examine. 7.  In the upper-right corner, click the button that resembles two pieces of paper. It is under the button that is labeled with a down arrow. This copies the error information to the Clipboard. 8. Paste the error information in the same post for further assistance

Please revert back for further assistance.

Thanks!Paolo M.

Paolo, thank you for your response. Below is the info you need. Also, generally the computer is working OK. The OS is Windows Vista Home Premium, I believe it is 64x. The problem started on Saturday 6/16, after my wife downloaded Windows updates. I believe the problem is caused by new Windows 8 Explorer. Thank you for your help. Hi,There might be a possibility that a windows updates that affected MSN or there may be too many programs running in the background and it eats up most of the computer resources causing the MSN software to malfunction. To check the computer's system resources, please follow these steps:

a. Restart the computer to have a fresh start. Please make sure that you do not open any program or application when the computer boots up.b. Open the Windows Task Manager. You can either press CTRL, ALT and DELETE simultaneously on your keyboard or you can right-click the Task Bar and then choose "Task Manager."c. When you have it up, please look for CPU Usage and Processes at the bottom middle portion. Provide us the details if done so.

-----------1. Before you start MSN, click Start and type inetcpl.cpl in the Start Search area; then press enter2. In the Internet Properties/Options, go to the Advanced tab and proceed to reset through the button near that window's bottom part.3. Try signing in and check if the issue persists. Proceed to the next part if it does persist

Verify that Windows Updates are actually up to date.

    a. Click on Start and type Windows Update and it should show in the list    b. Select it as it comes up and check if there are updates that you need to download and install    c. If the issue persists after an update of Windows, let us know.Paolo M.

Paolo, thank you for your help. Unfortunately it is still not working. CPU usage varies between 6% and 33% but mostly it stays in low numbers. I also checked the updates. There are three optional but no update is scheduled. I checked the details. During the last update, on 6/16, 21 updates were attempted. 2x the Definition Update for Windows Defender is shown as failed but on the very the top it is shown as Successful. Also, while I was working on your instruction, the computer showed me to a screen for Update of Internet Explorer 9. I am not sure where it came from. K.

Hi, The closest cause of the issue is a corrupt component of MSN on your computer that is causing the malfunction. To resolve this, we need to completely remove MSN and then reinstall it.

If you have email messages saved under Folders on your computer, they need to be backed up first before removing the corrupt MSN. Please go to this link and follow the steps to copy the MSN folder to the desktop: http://answers.msn.com/thread.aspx?postid=1c74a57f-8706-4adf-8499-17c3d01502c1#1c74a57f-8706-4adf-8499-17c3d01502c1 Please take note that the steps are marked in Green and dated Wednesday, November 09, 2011 7:13 PM

Once the email messages are backed up, please check the Private Message area below for the steps to cleanly uninstall the corrupt MSN butterfly.

Feel free to reply to this post for any questions and feedback.

Thanks,

Paolo M.
