Hello Paolo; To answer your question... I do use butterfly, but the "short cut to MSN1" icon is not working i.e.  when I click on it can't put in my password and no "dial up" (noise) showing a connection. I began to reuse MSN! 1 about March 2012 when tech (via phone...so much easier)helped me to load software to my laptop and then helped "load" and/or "reconfigure" the "tShortcut to MSN1" icon for my laptop so I could use dial up at home.I am again in the library accessing the internet with their WIFI on my laptop.I believe, as you say ...I need reconnect the Manual Connection on my laptopPer you inquiry I went to the MSN Connection Center it reads:Under Dial Up location tab:farm (home) with my phone number (this is correct)x in box saying connect using Lan or DSLUnder tab "settings":x Safety options x Disconnect if more than 60 minutes. Please help me once again "reconfigure" so I can use my "dial up" at home (for which I am paying without being able to use now for nearly two weeks).I have the dial up service with MSN because I have to drive nearly25 miles roundtrip to conncet.Thanks. Marsha

Hi,At home where you use the dial up connection, it would not be necessary for you to use the Manual Dialer (MSN1) if MSN Explorer is already installed. If you need to configure MSN Explorer for dial up, make sure that on Connection Settings "Connect using Lan or DSL" is unchecked. Also, set your MSN as the default dialer:
  • Click Start and select Control Panel
  • Double-click on Internet Options
  • Go to Connections tab
  • Inside the box, make sure MSN is the one set as default
  • If not, click on MSN and click on Set default on the right corner
  • Click on Never Dial a Connection
  • Click Apply then OK

If you are on a wifi connection to configure MSN for broadband/wifi use just uncheck "Connect using Lan or DSL" Let us know the results once you try signing in to MSN after configuring it for dial up use.Hope this helps,Paolo M.
